General Habitat is a unique interior design practice that studies human behaviors & personal histories to guide home dwellers toward better spaces, physically & mentally, in this beautiful mess of a world.

Home is personal - from childhood bedrooms to first apartments, woodland forts to converted closet home offices. It is all a beautiful mess, but sometimes the mess is too… overwhelming. You need a shift in mindset, a tangible shift in walls and declutter, or perhaps even relocation to notice the beauty. General Habitat understands the stress and excitement of these shifts, and offers home therapy and design services to relieve you and encourage your next steps. This guide outlines our offerings and processes to best select which is right for you.

Since 2011, General Habitat has provided individualized design services for homeowners and project support for the trade.

Principal & founder, Jamie Adjemian, brings more than 15 years of industry experience to her firm - from luxury trade brands and custom millwork to adaptive architecture and sustainable technologies. She holds a BS in Interior Design from Drexel University and an MS in Sustainable Design from Jefferson University. Her unique method to interiors merges design psychology with building science for solutions that are pragmatic and mindful. After serving clients in the Philadelphia region, she moved with husband and three children to New Hampshire’s seacoast in 2019, where they are attempting to renovate @thisoldbroadhouse, their 17th century farmhouse.
